Exporting to pdf open office white page

Post by Scott AU » Thu Apr 27, 2017 10:00 pm

When I convert my document to PDF I am getting an extra blank page on page 3 for some reason.

The first two pages are the Title and inside cover title (ie. no headers or footers). My headers and footers start on page 3 which is the contents in my document. Yet when I convert to PDF the contents are pushed to page 4 and there is an extra page which is blank for some reason. This extra page has the header and footer on it (title and page number).

How do I get rid of it? I have tried backspacing the contents all the way to the title page in order to delete anything hidden. What is interesting is that when I use Enter to set the contents on page 3 again right before it sets the Enter key does nothing one time, thus I suspect there is something there I cannot see.

Any help would be appreciated.

Greetings and welcome to the community forum!

Did you try File > Page Preview . Do you see the blank page there?

If so, the blank page is inserted automatically to make sure that the following page falls on the right. With the default settings, OO Writer will keep the odd-numbered pages on the right (like a book, or front side of double-sided output) and even pages on the left/back. If you configure page numbering to restart at 1, OO Writer may add a blank page to make sure page one is on the right.

You can suppress such blank pages with File > Export as PDF > General > General > Export auto generated blank pages: OFF

Thank you for the quick response.

In the original document I have.

Title Page (no header or footer)
Title Page with extra details (no header or footer)
Contents (page numbering starts here as Page 2)
Contents cont. (page 3 of book)
. rest of book

When I click "File > Page Preview" I get.

Title Page (no header or footer)
Blank Page (it says this)
Title Page with extra details (no header or footer)
Contents (page numbering starts here as Page 2)
Contents cont. (page 3 of book)
. rest of book

When I convert to PDF I get.

Title Page (no header or footer)
Title Page with extra details (no header or footer)
Extra Blank page (includes header and footer - page numbered as page 2)
Contents (page numbering is page 3)
Contents cont. (page 4 of book)

The blank page offsets my page numbering by one. It only appears in the PDF.

Have you tried this setting?

Tools>Options>OpenOffice.org Writer>Print

Unchecking the box under Other print automatically inserted blank pages

Does this 'fix' your problem?

I just tried that and it did not make any difference at all. Open Office 4.01

What happens when you click Book View?

If you are using Left and Right pages, and you have a Left page followed by another Left page, Writer automatically inserts a blank Right page to keep the layout sensible. You can enable or suppress outputting the blank page(s) when exporting to a PDF in the File > Export as PDF > General . dialogue.

As a relatively new poster you will find much useful information in the Writer FAQ, the Writer Tutorials, the up to date Writer guide and the OOo v3.3 Writer Manual. When a pop-up window opens, click the Help button for extensive help on that function - it is often more comprehensive than the manual.

If this solves the problem, please view your first post in this thread and click the Edit button (top right in the post) and add [Solved] in front of the subject.
